It happened to me after living in the inner suburbs of Sydney and Melbourne, Australia, for many years. My wife and I were looking for a more natural environment - clean air, the smell of rain forest eucalypts as well as the space to indulge one of our passions - we both loved dogs.So we bought an old hills cottage house in the Dandenong Ranges east of Melbourne and set about renovating it. Oh yes, we also purchased the most loveable, excitable and energetic Irish Setter, a dog that not only captured our hearts, but also the hearts of most of our neighbors. The Daisy Dilemma is loosely based on events that actually occurred during our time in the hills. Some of the characters in the story were drawn from real people we got to know. A rather idiosyncratic and eccentric bunch and unlike anyone wed ever encountered when we lived in the city. But essentially, people with big hearts brimming with generosity and willingness to go out of their way to help others. This short story attempts to capture the humor and spirit of that place and the people we had the pleasure of spending wonderful experiences with. It is also about a dog that gave far more than she received. A dog that overflowed with boundless joy every day of her life and brought happiness to nearly everyone she came in contact with.
